Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) is a modality of delivering radiation therapy by utilizing a linear accelerator to manipulate a photon radiation beam to conform to the treatment area/tumor. This modality uses many radiation “beamlets” that change shape and intensity throughout the treatment to conform to the specific shape of the tumor. This way, the healthy tissue of the patient is spared and the radiation shapes itself around the concave and convex contours of a treatment area. Typically, with IMRT, less side effects are also seen.

At Premier Cancer Centers, we utilize our TomoTherapy H Series for IMRT treatments.
